Guest CT member Linda Brun

Hi everyone :) We've got a great 12x12 by Linda Brun to share with you today!

Hi, Linda, from Norway here. I'm creative 24/7 and my big love is mixed media and bookbinding. I also do silk printing and sewing, all in my home based studio. It's been a real pleasure to play with the very cool and enabling products from UmWowStudio. A big thank you to DeeDee.

I love to travel and see the world, this picture is taken of me and my DH in Gran Canyon this summer. The layout is made with layers of paper, tape, gesso and Gelatos in colors that reflect the colors from the Gran Canyon.

First I prepared the background and left it aside to dry.

Then I added a thin layer of gesso to the balloons, let it dry and then added some Gelatos mixed with water.

I added some more layers to the background and then added the photo, before I did all the stamping and final touches.

Thank you for looking!

Childhood Memories - A Mixed Media layout

Hello and Happy Thursday!  Tina here today with simple mixed media layout, created with 1 stencil and several UWS chipboard pieces.

I began by prepping my 12x12 chipboard background with a coat of gesso.  After the gesso was dry, I added texture with the Diamond Confetti mask and modeling paste.

The next step is to add color.  I began with watered down, PaperArtsty Fresco paint, layering several contrasting shades to blend.  For more glimmer and glitz, I spritzed several shades of Shimmerz sprays to the background.

I wanted to 'dress up' my chip, so I painted each piece (Leaf Stems(2),  & Flourishes One) with PaperArtsy Fresco paint, then heat embossed them for subtle texture.

I wanted to continue the floral theme, so I stamped (and heat embossed) a floral design on the top of my page, then painted the petals/leaves with more PaperArtsy Fresco paint.

To finish off this simple layout, I added a piece of Flair (Set Sail Flair) and a title (Alpha Two). Done!

I hope you enjoyed this short how-to!  Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Blam, Zap, Boom!!! A Layout with Jen Matott

When my youngest was still a little one in a crib, I had a baby monitor that I kept in the kitchen so I could hear when he was up from his nap.  My other, then 6 year old, son loved Marvel figurines and I'd find them all over the house in odd locations.  The funniest was this one seemingly muscular little dude trying to lift the monitor (or so it looks like)... It made me giggle one afternoon and I had to grab my camera!
The Comic Book Speech Bubbles Chip is perfect for little boy pages!  I adore them for their Pop Art appeal and super hero flavor!  I had to spice them up with some metallic embossing powders from WOW Embossing powders.
Then, I added some colored paper shapes behind them and popped up a few of them!  This is a little bit different than my usual style but these shapes inspired me to create a more Pop Art style page... I was thinking along the lines of Roy Lichtenstein like this artwork:
http://nikkiikkin.files.wordpress.com/2013/03/il_fullxfull-230754249.jpg
Lichtenstein was a Pop Artist in the 1960's and his work mimicked the Comic books or ads of the time.  His signature BenDay dots and bold primary colors had the art world in an uproar!  I love the bold, retro look to the work!

I also used the Star confetti mask to add a few stars with gold texture paste. I just used a small palette knife to get some of the stars .   I stitched on the lines to give a little more color.

If you have little boys or a love of Comic Book icons, these chipboard accents are for you!  Thanks for letting me share this page with you today!

Supplies:
UmWow Studio Comic Book Speech Bubbles Chip
UmWow Studio Star confetti mask
Studio Calico paper and tag accent
American Crafts cardstock
DMC floss
Epoxy dots
Gold Texture Paste (not sure of brand)
WOW Embossing Powders in Gold Metallic, Black Glint, Metallic Silver Sparkle

Pretty in Pink

Hello all,

Today's layout is about my youngest daughter's love of pink. She is a princess-y kind of girl, through and through (despite her extremely un-princess-y mother and sister).

Of course I had to use some UmWowStudio Layered Butterflies but I also wanted to grunge it up a bit. I wanted to make them look vintage and metallic. What do you think?

The chipboard are so sturdy! Adding layers of acrylic paint and heat (to get the texture) was no problem.

I also texturized the Hexagon Background with some fiber paste and texturized the background with the Checkerboard Mask and heavy gesso.

That Wild Flower flair went so well with this page. I just had to emphasize it with some dark brown twine from May Arts.

Have a creative day!

You and Me with Rhonda

Thursday greetings to you and welcome to the blog, it's Rhonda here to host today!

I decided to create a mixed media card for my project today using a mask, a chipboard tag and some flair.  I've also added in other elements like cheesecloth and hemp for texture and interest.

I started by using the Damask mask with some glass bead gel, then I sprinkled a few different mists and let them pool and run together a bit.

There is a chipboard tag from the soar collection on the right, it's been base coated with gesso, then pearlescent pens rubbed on it to create a variegated effect.

I just love our beautiful Flair and used the "You & Me" from The 2 of Us collection as a sentiment for my card.

The biggest pumpkin ever

Good morning Friends, Brianna here to bring you some festive joy! With three little ones in the house, this time of year is all about fall festivities; pumpkin patches, costume picking, and of course decorating. Every year we get a pumpkin , and last year we found the biggest pumpkin ever!
I chose to highlight this fun find by a starburst shape filled with some of my favorite UWS Confetti. Keeping all in each section, I filled one strip with The Sequin Confetti. My normal urge is to scatter these about my page, but I love them all bunched together like so. I used another strip to place my Arrow Confetti of various sizes as a leading line to my photo.
I chose to keep this layout paint fee, as the papers themselves were already busy enough. I finished it off with a perfectly placed arrow to my photo cluster. I loved how amazingly the confetti looked bunched together! I hope this helped put you in the festive mood as well as it did for me!

Halloween Wood Panels with Safari animals

Hello and Happy Friday!

Tina here today with a fun Halloween project!

Halloween is my favorite holiday and I ALWAYS love creating projects for it!  I love the colors, the themes, and fall in general.  I had been racking my brain for a way to use the adorable animal chipboard pieces, when it hit me!  Why not create a whimsical Halloween project, embellishing them for the season.

To begin, I built texture on a wood panel, using the Hexagon Confetti mask and embossing paste.  I added several shades of Shimmerz sprays, letting them pool around the embossed areas.

To create my fun little animal chipboards, I added several shades of Distress paints and Shimmerz paints for color.  Once they were dry, I added a layer of crackle paint.  To add more vintage goodness, I added Distress stain to each piece, letting the stain seep into the cracks.

Animal Chips used:
Hippo
Rhino

I added more chipboard pieces and paper embellishments to each panel to complete my mini Halloween scene.

Chips used:
Grid Border
Layered Pumpkins

I would LOVE to see what you create with the fun and whimsical animal chipboard pieces!  Please share them with us!

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!
